Newly Released Housing and Residential Life FARP

A newly released resource, the Housing and Residential Life functional area resource paper (FARP), is now available in the CAS store.

The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is pleased to announce the newly released functional area resource paper (FARP) for Housing and Residential Life Programs.

 

Developed in 1986, the Housing and Residential Life Programs Standards (HRLP) have been updated and revised five times - in 1992, 1997, 2004, 2013, and 2021. The newly released Housing and Residential Life Programs FARP summarizes how four campuses used these standards to evaluate and adapt residential programs and services.

 

The purpose of the functional area resource paper is to exhibit how CAS standards can be used in diverse contexts. As one of the more expansive functions in higher education, housing and residential life intersects with various parts of a campus community. The functions that comprise this area are far-reaching and complex and very often require complex approaches given the ways that students interact with staff and paraprofessionals to create community in a safe and holistic way. The function varies from campus to campus and sometimes the use of CAS standards for housing and residential life must vary as well. For example, these functions may look different for campuses that are more residential versus “commuter”, as well as at a four-year public or private versus a two-year community college.
