CAS is proud to recognize the historical and timely importance of the Juneteenth holiday, celebrating freedom, unity, and resilience. On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African Americans in Texas were informed of this decree and were granted their freedom. Since then, Juneteenth has been regarded as a day of celebration of freedom for many in the United States.
CAS offers resources for higher education and student affairs professionals to ensure their institutions are providing adequate services and programs to support their LGBTQ+ faculty and students.
Pride Month is a monthlong observance dedicated to the celebration of LGBT pride, commemorating the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender culture and community.
As CAS's Sapphire Anniversary celebration continues, CAS Immediate Past President, Ralph Johnson, was joined by the ever-colorful Susan Komives, the organization's fifth president. In their smile-filled interview, the two discussed the past, present, and future of CAS, taking what Ralph described as a "run down memory lane."
