Carol Miller Schaefer Receives Brian Cartier Distinguished Service Award at CAMEX25

​The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is proud to recognize Carol Miller Schaefer, CAS Member-at-Large for Administration and one of CAS’s representatives from the National Association of College Stores (NACS), for receiving the Brian Cartier Distinguished Service Award at CAMEX25 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Brian Cartier Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor awarded by the NACS Foundation, recognizing extraordinary leadership, service, and dedication to the college store industry. Carol is the 18th recipient of this prestigious award, which was presented during the CAMEX Day of Education on February 22, 2025.

With a distinguished career as Director of Campus Stores at North Dakota State University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Carol has been a champion for campus stores as essential hubs for student success, community engagement, and academic support. She has served as President of both NACS and the NACS Foundation, leading efforts to advance the industry and ensure that campus stores remain vital resources for higher education institutions.

Carol’s contributions extend beyond NACS—her leadership within CAS has been instrumental in developing the Campus Stores Standards and Self-Assessment Guide, providing institutions with a framework to assess and enhance the role of their campus stores. Through her work, she has helped define industry-wide standards that emphasize student learning, institutional collaboration, and operational excellence.
