CAS Honors Carol Miller Schaefer on Her Retirement

The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) extends its deepest gratitude to Carol Miller Schaefer as she retires from her role as Member-at-Large for Administration on the CAS Governing Board. Carol has represented the National Association of College Stores (NACS) on the CAS Council for many years, bringing unwavering dedication, leadership, and expertise to both CAS and the collegiate retail industry.

​Throughout her distinguished career, Carol served as Director of Campus Stores at North Dakota State University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, championing the role of campus stores as essential hubs for student success, community engagement, and academic support. She has also served as President of both NACS and the NACS Foundation, leading transformative initiatives to strengthen the industry’s future.

Within CAS, Carol played a pivotal role in the development of the Campus Stores Standards and Self-Assessment Guide, providing institutions with a robust framework for assessing and enhancing the role of their campus stores. Her leadership ensured that these standards reflect the industry’s best practices while emphasizing student learning, institutional collaboration, and operational excellence.

In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, Carol was awarded the Brian Cartier Distinguished Service Award at CAMEX25, the highest honor awarded by the NACS Foundation. This award celebrates her exceptional leadership, service, and dedication to advancing collegiate retail, leaving a legacy that will impact students, faculty, and institutions for generations.
