The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is pleased to welcome Dr. Ana Maia, a higher education scholar-practitioner with more than 15 years of experience advancing student success through data-informed strategies, leadership development, program effectiveness, and inclusive practice. Ana currently serves as Associate Dean for Student Affairs Program Effectiveness at the University of Tampa, where she leads divisional assessment efforts and CAS Program Reviews, chairs the Strategic Planning and Assessment Committee, and guides data projects, reporting, and staff education. She also serves as Assessment Chair for UTampa’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), UTampa Cares.
Ana’s connection to CAS spans more than 15 years. Her relationship with the organization began in 2010, when she served as a graduate assistant and designed CAS’s first public-facing website. Since then, her career has continued to reflect many of the principles central to the CAS mission, including assessment, program effectiveness, professional development, and a commitment to strengthening the student experience. Ana is particularly interested in the intersection of assessment and leadership development and how the two can work together to build stronger programs, empower professionals, and foster well-rounded student experiences. Her work brings together data and practice, using assessment not simply to measure outcomes but to help professionals and programs continually learn and improve. Ana earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Psychology from the University of South Florida in 2022 and her M.Ed. in Counseling and Student Personnel Services from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is also a published author in student leadership development. From helping establish CAS’s early public-facing digital presence to using CAS Program Reviews in her work today, Ana brings a unique history with and understanding of the organization. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Ana Maia to this new chapter with CAS. We look forward to the leadership, experience, and perspective she brings to the CAS community.
