As part of our ongoing series celebrating the past leaders of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), we are honored to feature Dan Bureau, who served as CAS President from 2019 to 2021. Dan brought a unique perspective to his presidency, drawing from his experiences as a first-generation college student with deep roots in higher education. With parents who worked in food service at a college, Dan grew up understanding the transformative power of education—a theme that would guide his leadership and professional journey.
Under Dan's tenure, CAS expanded its focus on integrating health and well-being into its standards, reflecting his commitment to fostering holistic student development. His efforts helped emphasize collaboration across institutions and functional areas, ensuring CAS standards remained relevant and impactful in addressing the evolving needs of students. Currently, Dan serves as the Assistant Vice President for Health and Wellbeing at Louisiana State University and CAS Member-at-Large for Research, Assessment, and Publications. He continues to champion education, access, and equity, with a passion for empowering students and professionals alike.
