Jason Vlastaras Elected CAS President-Elect; Will Continue as Member at Large for Standards

The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is pleased to announce that Jason Vlastaras, Director of Campus Recreation at Texas State University, has been elected to serve as President-Elect of the CAS Governing Board, effective September 1, 2025. He will also continue in his current role as Member at Large for Standards for the next year, ensuring continuity in CAS’s standards development efforts during the leadership transition.

Vlastaras has been actively involved with CAS for several years, beginning as the CAS Co-Director representing NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation. In that role, he helped lead the development of both the Esports Programs and Basic Needs Programs standards. Prior to joining the CAS Council, he chaired NIRSA’s Research and Assessment Committee and Career Development Committee.

With 14 years of experience in recreation and well-being, Vlastaras has led well-being initiatives and programs at multiple universities, including the University of Florida, Oklahoma State University, and Iowa State University. At Texas State University, he and his team use CAS Standards as a framework for staff development, strategic planning, and continuous improvement—engaging in reflective questions such as “Do we meet these standards?” and “How can we improve?” to keep programs student-centered and aligned with institutional priorities.

Outside of his professional career, Vlastaras once owned a sports card and comic book store and remains an avid collector of Pittsburgh Steelers and Superman memorabilia.
