Gavin Henning, representative to the CAS Board of Directors from ACPA: College Student Educators International, was elected to the position of President-Elect of CAS. Henning will support the current CAS President in this transitional role until September 2017, when he begins a two-year term providing leadership and vision for the association. Asked about his election this position, Henning said, “I'm humbled to be elected President Elect for the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). With a focus on student learning and development, CAS continues to set the standard for quality in higher education.”

Henning is currently an Associate Professor of Higher Education and the Director of the Doctorate of Education and Master of Higher Education Administration Programs at New England College. Joseph Testani, representative to the CAS Board of Directors from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), was elected to the position of Member-at-Large for Resource Development. In this newly created leadership position, Testani will help to coordinate the development of resources for CAS users seeking to use the standards in their practice and implement the self-study process. Asked about his election this new position, Testani said “I have learned a great deal about the history and relevance of CAS in our profession since joining the group and I am be honored to serve the board in this role and help move the organization and the utilization of standards forward. We are at a critical time in higher education and CAS and the standards can serve as a mechanism to elevate the work we do and support the continued need for resources.”

Testani is currently the Assistant Dean and Executive Director of the Gwen M. Greene Career & Internship Center at the University of Rochester. Testani has served on the CAS Board of Directors since 2013 as a representative from NACE, and has been actively involved in standards review and strategic planning during his time on the Board.

About the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS)

CAS was established in 1979 to develop standards that promote college student learning and self-assessment for institutional effectiveness. Composed of 43 collaborating professional associations representing over 115,000 professionals in higher education, CAS has developed standards and guidelines for 45 diverse functional areas in higher education.

The ninth edition of CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education, as well as the new edition of the CAS Self-Assessment Guides (SAGs), were released in August 2015. The book of standards is the defining source of professional standards for many of the services provided to students in higher education. The SAGs provide institutions of higher education with strategies for assessing program and service effectiveness based on the evidence a self-study team gathers and evaluates.
