Dorothy Mitstifer, Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) Editor, was selected as a 2013 inductee to the Michigan Society of Association Executives (MSAE) Hall of Fame. Mitstifer was honored at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester on September 18, 2013. MSAE is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and professional development of more than 700 executives in Michigan's association and nonprofit communities.
Mitstifer's major contributions to MSAE have included her work on two task forces to develop professional competencies for chief executive officers. In addition to serving on the development team, Mitstifer took the lead in teaching the task force to write rubrics for the self-assessment instrument.

“Dorothy is a wonderful asset to MSAE, as is evidenced by this well-deserved honor,” Marybeth Drechsler Sharp, CAS Executive Director, explained. “As a new association executive myself, I'm very grateful for the expertise, guidance, and support Dorothy offers through her CAS role, too.”

Mitstifer serves as Executive Director for Kappa Omicron Nu honor society, a position she has held since 1986, and is connected to MSAE through this role. Additionally, Mitstifer represents the Association of College Honor Societies on the CAS board, and she currently serves as CAS Editor. Mitstifer received her Ph.D. at Penn State University in 1976.

About CAS
CAS was established in 1979 to develop standards that enhance college student learning and promote self-assessment for institutional effectiveness. Composed of 39 collaborating professional associations representing over 100,000 professionals in higher education, CAS has developed standards and guidelines for 43 diverse areas of the college student experiences.

The eighth edition of the book, CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education, was released in August 2012. The book of standards is the defining source of professional standards for many of the services provided to students in higher education. Along with the book, CAS also released an updated CD of all 43 functional area self-assessment guides (SAGs). The SAGs provide institutions of higher education with strategies for assessing program and service effectiveness based on the evidence a self-study team gathers and evaluates. Information about CAS and its efforts over its more than three decades can be found at https://www.cas.edu.
