The CAS Governing Board's statement on recent acts of racism, injustice, and brutality. Dear Colleagues,
Many of our member organizations have conveyed messages condemning recent acts of racism, injustice, and brutality. The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) joins these organizations and their members, including those who represent each association on our Council, in declaring our commitment to addressing societal injustices and conveying care and support to our colleagues of color who face the challenge of systemic racism every day. CAS will continue to examine how we can be more actively engaged in combatting these societal problems. We have already begun to examine how we can strengthen our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as an organization. Additionally, we believe our standards can be helpful in creating environments that emphasize intercultural cooperation and commitment as essential outcomes of every functional area's programs and services. With over 47 different sets of functional area standards available, we know that there is more in common across our areas than there is unique. One of the common goals we must all work toward is creating equitable environments. CAS stands committed to working with our member organizations to support their members in countering these injustices and ensuring students learn, develop and grow in environments that are welcoming and inclusive. Take care, CAS Governing Board
