CAS is proud to announce that Deb Garrett, CAS President, has been named a Class of 2017 ACPA Diamond Honoree. Initiated in 1998, the ACPA Diamond Honoree program recognizes outstanding individuals in the field of student affairs who have contributed lasting legacies in higher education and student affairs. Dr. Garrett recently was awarded this honor at the 2017 ACPA: College Student Educators International conference in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Garrett has served in higher education for forty years, with over thirty of those years in roles as an executive assistant to the president, senior-level student affairs professional, and an interim college president. She has a passion about improving programming and services for students through the implementation of self-assessment and the incorporation of student learning outcomes.

Her roles within CAS have included serving as the Board Member representing the National Council on Student Development (NCSD), Member-at-Large for Outreach, President-Elect, and President.

In addition to serving on the CAS Board of Directors for sixteen years, Dr. Garrett has twice been the president of NCSD, an affiliated council of the American Association of Community Colleges. She has served in many leadership positions with local, state, and national organizations and has made too many presentations to count.

Marybeth Drechsler Sharp, CAS Executive Director, speaks to Dr. Garrett's leadership style and impact on the field, “Through her distinguished career and in her time as CAS President, Deb has elevated the conversation about and inclusion of two-year and community college professionals at the national level. Her persistent advocacy for ensuring quality student programs and services are established and assessed in two-year settings - on her own campuses and beyond - is a true testament to the committed educator and champion Deb is for all students and their learning.”
