Leaders from CAS were featured in a recent article by the NACS Foundation highlighting the organization's shared goals to raise the standard in higher education. CAS leaders were featured in an article from the most recent issue of the National Association of College Stores Foundation magazine.
Ray Plaza, head of the CAS Standards Management Committee, and Ralph Johnson, CAS President 2021-2023, discussed the CAS mission, process of creating standards, and importance of using standards in higher education administration. Plaza shared that CAS involved experts in the subject areas that CAS standards cover. These experts are brought in by the individual higher education professional associations and apply their real-life experience to the creation and approval of CAS standards. Past president Ralph Johnson, PhD explained how the organization unites associations from various areas of a higher education institution to “identify and promote best practices that help practitioners meet their student success goals.” One of the NACS Foundation’s goals is to bring awareness to the importance of the college store and emphasize its value to the administration. As Dr. Johnson described, “other nonacademic functional areas of the campus may want to follow the college stores’ lead in perceiving themselves to be engaged directly in student education.” A new CAS resource is in development relating to the NACS initiative. The Campus Store Standards and Self-Assessment Guide will soon be available in the CAS store. Read the full article from the NACS Foundation at https://www.nacsfoundation.org/in-the-news.
