CAS recently revised the professional standards for College Honor Society Programs. The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) has released revised standards to provide direction for College Honor Society Programs. CAS, composed of 41 collaborating professional associations representing over 100,000 professionals in higher education, has developed standards and guidelines for 44 functional areas, and rooted them in the scholarship and work conducted within their respective fields. The new standards delineate expectations for educators in the related functional areas and are housed in the ninth edition of the CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education.
Since the last revision, the College Honor Society Programs (CHSP) standards have had a name change (previously called College Honor Societies) to more clearly distinguish their intended audience. Other noteworthy changes to the standards include:
According to Marybeth Drechsler Sharp, CAS Executive Director, “CAS recognizes that most College Honor Society Programs are not housed in a specific location or office on campus. The revised standards provide greater direction for CHSP advisors and are more accessible for practitioners working with honor societies on their campuses.” The revised College Honor Society Programs standards can be found in the ninth edition of the CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education and the revised Self-Assessment Guides. The newest CAS materials are now available for purchase. More information can be found at www.cas.edu.
