As a leader in higher education for 45 years, CAS has developed 50 sets of functional area standards and 3 cross-functional frameworks within diverse areas of the college student experiences. ​

Learning & Development Outcomes:

CAS has recently released the Student Learning and Development Outcomes free standalone resource, which defines and clarifies the six broad categories, or domains, for learning and development outcomes. These include:

• Knowledge acquisition, construction, integration, and application
  
• Cognitive complexity
  
• Intrapersonal development
  
• Interpersonal competence
  
• Humanitarianism and civic engagement
  
• Practical competence
  

This CAS resource defines and clarifies each of the six domains by identifying learning and development outcome dimensions. Offering dimensions of learning within corresponding domains allows for a more focused assessment approach based on institutional mission and priorities.

Linkage Project:

Certain CAS member associations have permission to provide free access to the standards that were developed with their organization’s input. 

Members are invited to use the standards in the design and assessment of your programs and for your staff training and development. These materials may not be duplicated or redistributed for other purposes without permission from CAS.

Each set of standards has an accompanying Self-Assessment Guide (SAG) available for purchase from www.cas.edu for use in program evaluation. If you’re department or unit is considering embarking on a program evaluation it is encouraged to purchase the accompanying SAG to the standards.

The CAS Council has determined that each representative association that belongs to CAS is allowed access to their own respective standard plus one other. If you do not know which standard belongs to your association, please contact your association executive director or staff.

1. Log into the CAS Store at: www.CAS.edu or https://store.cas.edu/
   
2. Click on the “Shop” button on the top menu
   
3. Click on “Functional Area Standards”
   
4. Select the standard associated with your association and add to your cart (bag).
   
5. Click on “Check Out”
   
6. You will have to log in or you will have to create an account. Complete the appropriate information for either.
   
7. At check out, click on “Coupon/Gift Certificate” and include your association’s Linkage Project Code. Please contact your association executive director or staff for the correct discount code for your organization.
   
8. When you check out, the discount code will zero out to $0 for your association’s standard.
