In celebration of CAS’s diamond anniversary (1979 - 2024), we have embarked on an exciting series which aims to honor the higher education professionals who led the organization in the role of President up to this point. These ten leaders laid a foundation that has allowed CAS to “Stand & Guide” for 45 years.
Recently, immediate Past-President, Ralph Johnson, sat down and discussed CAS’s history with the organization’s third president, Don Creamer, who led as CAS President from 2001 to 2004. Don was the first to serve a singular term, a procedure that has been observed by every president since. Though Don’s CAS presidency began in 2001, he was instrumental in CAS’s development from its inception. In fact, Don participated in the very establishment of CAS, along with Ted K. Miller, Bud Thomas, and Phyllis Mable in 1979, during his presidency of ACPA. Together, along with representatives they recruited from several other associations, these leaders researched, defined, and popularized the self-assessment process as we know it today.
We invite you to watch the video below to learn more about Don’s presidency, the early history of CAS, and the quality assurance implications of self-assessment for higher education today.
