The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), in partnership with the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association (CIVSA), is pleased to announce the release of a revised set of standards for Campus Information and Visitor Services (CIVS). CAS, a consortium composed of over 40 collaborating professional associations representing over 115,000 professionals in higher education, has developed standards for 50 functional areas and 3 cross-functional teams, and rooted them in the scholarship and work conducted within their respective fields. These revised standards delineate expectations for practitioners and educators in related functional areas and are an update to the standards published in the 2019 CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education (10th ed). The CAS revision committee was chaired by Kristen Vickery, Anne Arundel Community College (retired) and representative from the National College Testing Association (NCTA). CAS partnered closely with the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association (CIVSA). Experts representing CIVSA were Paul Hovey, Fairfield University and Meg Adams, University Louisville. Hovey commented: “Visitor centers are the front door at most colleges and universities across the nation. Through their services, we welcome many different constituencies and connect guests with other parts of our institutions. These revised standards will provide visitor services professionals a critical, updated resource to consult as they do this important work in an ever-changing world.” Hovey and Adams were joined by additional professionals who provided invaluable feedback on the standards and contextual statement. The standards professionals included: Kristen Vickery (Chair), Anne Arundel Community College (retired) Christine Self, Texas Tech University Justin Brown, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Patricia Carretta, George Mason University (retired) The consulting professionals for the contextual statement included: Megan Adams, University of Louisville Paul Hovey, Fairfield University Ilana Ciccone, St John's University Andrew Cohen, Georgia Institute of Technology CAS is proud to release this revised set of standards for an important and evolving functional area in higher education. Both the standards and the Self-Assessment Guide are now available in the CAS store, and are free to CAS annual subscribers.
