The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is delighted to announce that Deb Boykin, CAS Director for the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I), has been honored by the Virginia state legislature. Virginia House Resolution 52 honored Boykin's contributions to student life. The resolution, which recognizes Boykin's 34 years of service to student housing, emphasizes her professional leadership and dedication to students. In this time, Boykin has served as president of both the Virginia Association of College and University Housing Officers (VACUHO) and the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers. VACUHO's Outstanding Professional Award, with which Boykin was recognized in 2004, is named in her honor.
"By emphasizing the importance of living on campus, Deb Boykin has been able to give her students a more rounded college experience," the resolution states, "in which students' grades and graduation rates are higher and they are more likely to be connected with resources and faculty members, which will help with career opportunities after graduation." Virginia's House of Delegates offered the resolution to show "respect and admiration for her many years of service." The complete resolution can be viewed here. About CAS CAS was established in 1979 to develop standards that promote college student learning and promote self-assessment for institutional effectiveness. Composed of 39 collaborating professional associations representing over 100,000 professionals in higher education, CAS has developed standards and guidelines for 43 diverse areas of the college student experiences. CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education, released in August 2012, is the defining source of professional standards for many of the services provided to students in higher education. Along with the book, CAS also released an updated CD of all 43 functional area self-assessment guides (SAGs). The SAGs provide institutions of higher education with strategies for assessing program and service effectiveness based on the evidence a self-study team gathers and evaluates. Information about CAS and its efforts over its more than three decades can be found at https://www.cas.edu.
